This is my favorite bike part I have been a part of making (my three kids helped with the paint and sanding). It has turned out so much better than I expected. I am just so proud and excited by the result. It is not complete or on the bike yet but it is turning out so well I had to show you all. My kids are young all under 6 years. The bike is being built for them, to show and prove to them that a car is not the only form of regular transport. Lead by example is what I am working on here. They will hopefully have a sence of ownership and pride in the bike because they have been an integral part making the bike.
This photo is after three coats of clear coat. I am not sure how many coats it will get. The more coats the deeper and richer the kids painting under it becomes. I have a wonderful outdoor spray booth. My backyard, it is amazing just how lucky I am to live in such a wonderful place. I just head out my backdoor for beautiful MTB and trail runs.
The part is made from recycled double A grade hoop pine plywood. Feels wonderful to breath new life in to such amazing timber. As they say reuse, repurpose or recycle, I think this is a great example of that.
